SAG Awards... my favorite looks

Just as I did for the Golden Globes I have picked my favorite overall looks from the SAG Awards this past Sunday. I couldn't narrow this one down to 3 this time so I did a Top 6.

Coming in at number 6... Marion Cotillard

She made a statement with the dress so I love that she kept her bob sleek and with minimal jewelry.

Number 5... Michelle Dockery

Side boob and all I still loved this look.

Number 4... Naomi Watts

I thought Naomi Watts was stunning in this bead/lace gown. The hair, makeup all works.

Number 3... Jennifer Lawrence

I loved that blue was a go to on the red carpet this year. And Jennifer Lawrence nailed the look and rocked the color.

Number 2... Amanda Seyfried

Another lady that rocked the heck out of blue. This dress is perfect for her. I love the eyeliner and the soft waves!

And my Number 1 is... January Jones

I love that she mixed edgy and glamour all into one. She did it with her hair and her dress. I love love love this look and she is the perfect one to pull it off.

And as always this is my opinion and I know some will not agree. Until the Oscars... Ta Ta!

This is a super cute and easy ribbon braid tutorial.

Top 3 Favorite Golden Globe Looks

While I don't really care who wins or loses I love watching awards shows for the fashion. I love the hair, makeup, gowns! I have to say this year it was really hard for me to pick a top 3 for loving their total overall look. I loved dresses but hated the hair. Loved the hair and makeup, hated the dress, etc.

My number 3 pick goes to... Jennifer Garner

She looks stunning and not at all like a mom of 3! This dress flatters her in all the right ways. I love the soft, effortless hair and the very natural makeup. She is naturally pretty and too much makeup would've killed this look.

My number 2 pick is... Jennifer Lawrence

I think this color is perfect on her because it's very vibrant and fun. She's young and a color like this is perfect for that! I love the hair! And her makeup is beautiful.

And my number 1 pick goes to... Michelle Dockery

I think Michelle Dockery did everything right! No one paid her much attention but I loved everything about this and she was my best of the night! I love the color of this dress, I think it's simple and elegant and flatters her small frame. I love love love her hair! She glammed up her bob perfectly! Shorter hair is a tuff one for red carpet looks and this nailed it. You may disagree but this is my opinion after all.

And I will give a few honorable hair mentions to these ladies... Jessica Chastain and Jessica Alba! Although I did not care for either of their dresses.

I can't wait until the Oscars!!!

Tip of the Week - Messy Buns

While I do not think that Smash's Katharine McPhee's messy bun was appropriate for the Golden Globes (and it most definitely did not compliment her dress) I still think this is an easy go to look for a night out on the town.

Yes, I usually reserve this look for washing my face at night without getting my hair wet but it deserves some credit. It's easy to achieve with most moderate lengths to long hair and glam it up with some makeup and earrings. It is great for all ages. Did I mention go for some rockin earrings?!!! Go for the high rise like Miss McPhee or the side bun as seen on Jessica Alba below. Even Courtney Cox rocked this look. Enjoy!

Tip of the Week - Eye shadow primer

Yes that's right... shadow primer is the way to get the most out of your eye shadows. You get the most of your color and it lasts all day long. You can fork out the money and buy an actual primer but they are a bit pricey. Alternative... any cream or liquid shadow in a neutral shade. Apply from lip all the way up to our brow. Give it a few to dry and then apply shadow. Such a simple step but you will notice your shadow looking fabulous!

Say no to Mousse!!!

I was chatting with a friend before the holidays approached about her hair not holding curl after she has set it hot rollers. She has been a hair model for me many times over the years and her hair has always held curl when I do it. I knew that we had this conversation before so I asked her what product she was using... her reply, mousse. She has moderately thick, long hair so moose is not the way to go. Long hair like hers is already heavy so adding mousse which is a heavy product was working against her and hence why the curl was not holding. I told her to stop using the mousse and I bought her the hair product I use for her Christmas present. The product I got her is Aveda Smooth Infusion Style Prep Smoother and Aveda Confixor Liquid Gel. Google them if you want to know exactly what they are used for. Next time she curled her hair... perfection!

Mousse is a fairly outdated product, especially for woman. Sure it's great for guys sometimes but for the most part... leave the mousse behind. Product has come a long way. A gel is great (as long as it's not a super hold as those tend to give you the crunchy look) because they activate very nicely to heat! Mousse is not a good choice if you are trying to achieve volume either. One of my favs for volume is actually dry shampoo or the dry shampoo sprays that they sell now. Biggest culprit of lack of volume? Dirt and oil. Dry shampoo eliminates both and volume comes out to say Hello!

Stay away from oily products such as smoother's and products that offer shine if you have fine hair. They will make fine hair limp, bodiless and greasy looking.

Are you a daily heat user? Flatiron, curling iron, blow dryer? Make sure you are using a product with heat protection. The Smooth Infusion that I mentioned before is heat protection and and humidity controller. They also make products that you can just mist on wet hair and use a detangler that have heat protection in them. It's like going out in the sun all day without wearing sunscreen and getting fried. Yeah, that's what you're doing to your hair everyday.

Never apply hair product from the scalp down through the ends of your hair. Products = oil and oil on scalp... greasy looking hair. Apply from the ends of your hair up and avoid your roots.

I feel like I am starting to get elementary now as I know most of you probably already know all this. So happy hair day! Any questions are always welcome!

Why mascara ads piss me off and other eyelash rants...

Ok so does anyone actually believe that the lashes on this girl in the ad are real? You don't? Well neither do I. And do you believe that if you use this mascara that your lashes will look like this? Of course you don't because you are not an idiot. But yet these ads are everywhere and they annoy the crap out of me. This one especially strikes a nerve because it's not even believable. But then again I would never spend $30 on a tube of mascara anyway. Truth be told most mascara formulations are exactly the same... only difference? The type of applicator you use. That makes all the difference in the world. So find the one that works best for you and then your only other choice is waterproof or regular and color. My favorite... Clinique High Lengths Mascara, it has my most favorite applicator EVER!

Fake Eyelashes... yes, I am a fan for those special occasions and such but come on already. With gals like the Kardashians and Jersey Shore girls with their spider lashes, enough already. If you're not a reality TV star and or a model in a mascara ad you just look ridiculous. I have done a few photo shoots and have been known to rock the lashes for Halloween but I always dress to the occasion if you will. I attended a formal wedding in May of this year and rocked some lashes just to give me a little more than I have naturally but I went for a more sparse, naturally looking lash. My boyfriend of 5 years didn't even realize I had them on and that to me is a win! He likes me very low maintenance! (Love him for that) So ladies, I'm all about rocking lashes but be yourself. Don't do the spider lash look as seen below.

Enough said!
