Why mascara ads piss me off and other eyelash rants...

Ok so does anyone actually believe that the lashes on this girl in the ad are real? You don't? Well neither do I. And do you believe that if you use this mascara that your lashes will look like this? Of course you don't because you are not an idiot. But yet these ads are everywhere and they annoy the crap out of me. This one especially strikes a nerve because it's not even believable. But then again I would never spend $30 on a tube of mascara anyway. Truth be told most mascara formulations are exactly the same... only difference? The type of applicator you use. That makes all the difference in the world. So find the one that works best for you and then your only other choice is waterproof or regular and color. My favorite... Clinique High Lengths Mascara, it has my most favorite applicator EVER!

Fake Eyelashes... yes, I am a fan for those special occasions and such but come on already. With gals like the Kardashians and Jersey Shore girls with their spider lashes, enough already. If you're not a reality TV star and or a model in a mascara ad you just look ridiculous. I have done a few photo shoots and have been known to rock the lashes for Halloween but I always dress to the occasion if you will. I attended a formal wedding in May of this year and rocked some lashes just to give me a little more than I have naturally but I went for a more sparse, naturally looking lash. My boyfriend of 5 years didn't even realize I had them on and that to me is a win! He likes me very low maintenance! (Love him for that) So ladies, I'm all about rocking lashes but be yourself. Don't do the spider lash look as seen below.

Enough said!

Tips for the rest of summer

Summer puts a beating on your hair. It fades your color and drys your hair. Try these very simple tips on how to keep your hair healthy for the rest of the summer. Wear hats. Not only do hats provide shade from the sun they also help keep hair sheltered from wind damage that breaks and tangles your hair. UV rays are the most damaging to your hair, not only does it fade your color... it strips moisture and drys out your scalp. If you ride a motorcycle, scooter or drive a convertible I recommend wearing a hat but also securing your hair in a bun so that minimal wind damage occurs to your hair. Next, always wet your hair with fresh water prior to going in a pool or ocean. Chemicals like chlorine and salt are waiting to absorb into your dry hair when you get it wet. Wetting it prior helps block out those hair enemies before they absorb into your hair. And for added protection use a leave in conditioner preferably one with a UV Blocker in it already. Your hair will thank you.
This helpful tips brought to you by me! Happy Summer!

Home Remedies For Hair

Most of us have heard different home remedies for your hair. I have tried some of these over the years and I will tell you which remedies worked for me and some that I have recommended for others that have worked as well. There are different treatments for different hair types and needs. So away we go:

1. HONEY - It is a humectant and locks in moisture. So therefore this is great for dry and damaged hair. If you can manage the honey on it's own generally a 1/2 a cup applied to clean, damp hair will do the job. Add a few tablespoons of olive oil (which moisturizes) and microwave for about 20 seconds for easier application. For extremely damaged hair, trying mixing honey with 1 to 2 tablespoons of avocado or egg yolk which are both super moisturizing. This can be applied about once a month.

2. OLIVE OIL/LEMON - to get rid of dry scalp or flakes try a lemon juice and olive oil mixture in your hair. The acidity in lemon juice helps get rid of the flakes and the olive oil moisturizes the skin on your head. Mix 2 Tablespoons of fresh lemon juice, 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of water and apply to damp scalp. Wrap hair in a towel and let sit for 20 minutes, then rinse and shampoo hair. This can be applied a few times a month as needed.

3. EGGS - They are super moisturizing. For normal hair, use an entire egg to condition hair. For oily hair use egg whites only. Use only the egg yolks to moisturize dry/damaged hair. Use 1/2 cup of whichever egg mixture is right for your hair type and apply to clean, damp hair. Use as many eggs as is needed to thoroughly coat hair. Leave on for 20 minutes, trust me you won't want it on much longer because it smells, rinse and shampoo. Use only about once a month. If you're doing the egg white only for dry hair you can do it a little more frequently.

4. AVOCADO - It's great for dry/damage hair and also to tame frizz. Its oils are perfect for smoothing and weighing down frizzy hair. Mash up half an avocado and massage into clean, damp hair. Let sit for 15 minutes before rinsing with water. For really coarse and damaged/dry hair mash the avocado with 1 to 2 Tbsp of an additional hydrator like egg yolks or mayonnaise. This can be applied every two weeks.

I have medium length, color treated, heat damaged, dry and coarse hair. I find that the avocado mixed with egg or mayo works the best. My hair is so silky and smooth after a treatment with this mix. Only downfall is the smell, both while it's on and even after shampooing it still lingers. My go to on a regular basis if I just need a little shine and luster is the honey and olive oil mix. Plus it doesn't leave behind a smell and is a lot less messy.

If you choose to do any of these or if you have in the past let me know what you think of the results. Of if you have another home remedy that I didn't mention please share. I have heard about beer adding volume though I've never tried it or known anyone who has. I've also heard of plain yogurt to get rid of buildup on hair but again, never tried it. Either way, these are cheaper then most of your bottled options and better for your hair for sure. Home remedy away everyone!
